I've always loved the way keygen music skilfully plays with the retro-gaming aesthetic, sometimes adding a slightly more modern touch. It's this essence that I wanted to capture with my new track: Generations.
It will be released on platforms on March 26, 2025, but I wanted to give you an exclusive preview first:
A Sneak Peek into “Generations”
As with all my other tracks, the challenge was to mix synthwave and chiptune in the right balance. The aesthetics of keygen music are very strong, so I had to stick to them without trapping the track in some kind of straightjacket. That's why you'll find not only a strong chiptune lead, but also pads, arpeggios, a drumkit and a bass, all very much in the synthwave vein.
Behind the scenes
I used both iconic '80s synths like the Jupiter 8, and the DX7, while adding sounds sampled directly from an old Game Boy Color.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll share more details on my social media about the production process and how I composed this track.
